Take action to stop the spread of mpox

We have the power to protect ourselves, our children, and our communities from mpox. Here’s how we can make a difference:

  • Stay informed: Keep up with the latest information on the outbreak from reliable sources like local/national authorities, the Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, WHO, and UNICEF.
  • Wash your hands: Wash our hands with soap and water regularly.
  • Avoid close contact: Keep your distance from anyone who might have or has confirmed mpox, especially avoiding skin-to-skin contact, mouth to mouth or mouth-to-skin contact (e.g., kissing) and face-to-face interaction (e.g., talking, sneezing or breathing close to one another).
  • Don’t share personal items: Avoid sharing clothing, bed linens, towels, or other soft materials that might have touched someone with a mpox lesion.
  • Cover your coughs and sneezes: Use your elbow or a tissue, and dispose of the tissue in a closed bin immediately after use.
  • Reduce animal-to-human transmission: Avoid unprotected contact with wild animals, especially those that are sick or dead, including their meat, blood, and other parts. Use personal protective equipment like gloves and wash your hands with soap and water or alcohol-based hand sanitizers.
  • Seek medical care early: Find out where and when to seek medical care if you experience any symptoms.
